It is the year 2568. Over five hundred years have passed since the fall of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry (2065) and all other schools of magic (which you will learn about in History of Magic). A war took place after the schools fell. Many died on both sides and those left behind were discouraged and afraid.

Without higher learning the Magical world found itself back in the dark ages over time. The position of Minister of Magic changed hands many times, mostly by bloody means, and always by those who were only power hungry. However, as Wizarding folk either established themselves into the Muggle world, created their own small, hidden Wizarding communities or simply went out into the world on their own, the amount of power that one gained by being a Minister of Magic dwindled. Eventually the Ministry of Magic was no more. Without regulation, law, and education, a true Wizarding community was eventually no more. The amount of witch hunts formed by frightened Muggles began to rise again all over the world as the laws of the Magical World broke down.

Most parents didn’t know how to properly teach their children, so many forms of magic became forgotten among most. The few who were lucky enough to be taught correctly have decided that it is time to revive Hogwarts and bring higher learning to all young witches and wizards in the hopes of pulling our world out of the dark ages. The few magical families who were not killed off during the battles leading up to the fall of Hogwarts and the massive war that ensued after it's fall are being encouraged to abandon their hermit-like way of living or to leave a Muggle life and return to ours.

Although the Ministry of Magic fell, the Unspeakables were not disbanded and have completely taken over the old Ministry of Magic building, making it their home. Because of their vows, the original Unspeakables that survived the battle would not abandon the secrets and powerful things that dwell deep within the Department of Mysteries. Over time the Unspeakables became more cult like and have formed their own society within their walls. They have come to admire and worship the mysterious curtain in the Death Chamber. They often make human sacrifices to it and hold special ceremonies involving the curtain. When it is decided that it is their time, the elders pass through the curtain and onto what they think is another and better world.

Because of the encouragement of Hanley Lugaid, some witches and wizards who have shops in the few, small and secret wizarding villages have agreed to open up shop in the ghost town that was once Hogsmeade. They hope that, with the re-opening of Hogwarts, Hogsmeade will be thriving again and lead to more growth else where.
